For Newbies: Read First

Welcome to the Recipe Blog... also known as Feed Me, Seymour!

Here are a few things you should know:

Posting
When you are in the blog "Dashboard," click on the Posting tab to create a new post. At the top of the post window, on the right-hand side, there is a Preview link to see what your post will look like before you publish it. To write in an WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor, click on the Compose link at the top of the edit window. If you prefer to work directly with the HTML code, click on the Edit HTML link at the top of the edit window.

You can save your post as a draft if you want to come back and edit or add more later. This will save the content, but not publish it to the public blog. When you click on "Publish Post," this publishes your entry to the public blog.

Editing Existing Posts
To edit an existing post(either a published entry or a draft entry), click on the "Edit Posts" link at the top of the page in the Posting tab. This will display the titles of the most recent posts by all blog members. You can select the number of posts that are displayed on this page. The maximum number of posts that you can display is 300.

For each post entry, the date it was created, the author/owner, and the status will be displayed. If the entry has been published to the public blog, there will be a View link to take you directly to the blog entry on the website. If it is a draft, the word "Draft" will appear instead of a View link. Only the site administrator and the author/owner can edit or delete a blog entry.

Inviting Members
I'm still working out the details on this one. Initially, while I know everyone who posts here, just send me an email with the name and email address of anyone you'd like to join. Remember, anyone can read the blog and post comments, but if someone wants to contribute blog posts, they have to be a member.

RSS Feeds
If you're not familiar with RSS Feeds, it's a method of syndicating the information you find on blogs. If you know how to use RSS Feeds, the site feed URL is: http://seymourfood.blogspot.com/atom.xml. If you're wondering how to use this, portal sites like Yahoo.com let you create custom home pages (my.yahoo.com) and link to RSS Feeds. Then, Yahoo (or whatever site you are using) will automatically publish recent posts. Usually, only the first few words or post titles are included in the RSS Feed. That is also the case with this website. If you are using RSS Feeds, you will be able to know automatically when new recipes have been posted. If you would like to know more about RSS Feeds, I encourage you to read this. (This site uses the Atom specification.)

That should get everyone started. Let me know if you have any questions. If your questions are something that every new member will have, I'll be adding them to this list as well.

Happy blogging!
